Chiropractic care is safe and effective for people of all ages and stages of life and can be especially beneficial for pregnant women.

Pregnancy can cause a significant amount of physical stress. Throughout the nine months of gestation the spine is constantly having to adjust to the baby and its increasing weight. As a woman's center of gravity moves forward and pulls the spine out of its aligned position, women can experience symptoms that negatively impact their life qualities. More than half of all pregnant women report having low back pain. A lot of expecting moms additionally complaint of migraines, headaches, insomnia and nausea.

A misaligned spine can make labor a lot more painful. Misalignment of the pelvic region can reduce the amount of space that the developing fetus has in the uterus. These problems can also make it hard for babies to get into the proper delivery position.

The American Medical Association Board of Trustees conducted a study showing that women who went to chiropractors throughout their third trimesters had easier labors than women who didn't. Another study showed that receiving chiropractic care made women less likely to rely on painkilling medications during labor.

There are many other benefits that chiropractic care provides like improving the overall efficacy of the patient's immune system. With proper balance throughout the body the nervous system is able to function as it should so that all of the internal processes are properly carried out also. People are encouraged by chiropractors to be proactive in optimizing their well-being. To this end, they offer nutritional guidance and suggest exercise and special stretches that people are able to do on their own. Taking an entirely drug-free and natural approach to promoting wellness is something that an increasing number of expecting women are choosing to do.
