Back pain is currently a far too common issue. Painkillers are often prescribed by conventional doctors and surgery may be recommended as well. With various therapies and techniques, however, chiropractic care takes a drug-free and entirely non-invasive approach to managing this condition.

Adjustments are a core part of most patients' care plans. There are several different types. As its name implies, full spine adjusting encompasses all areas of the spine, while the Gonstead Technique only targets areas where neural defects are found. With the activator method, the chiropractor uses a small hand-held instrument to administer light spinal adjustments. The Thompson Drop Techniques involves the use of a table that drops to make it easier to adjust the patient. Using gentle techniques designed for small bodies, chiropractors can even adjust children.

Adjustments are only one very small part of chiropractic care. People are also able to benefit from adjunct therapies. For instance, Cox flexion or distraction can be used by people who suffer from discs that are bulging or herniated. Traction and decompression for the low back can alleviate problems affecting discs as well. TENS or stim therapy for the muscles can reduce swelling and pain as can ultrasound.

Ice packs can be applied to alleviate pain that is acute and sharp, while heat can be used to relieve pain that is chronic and tight. The soft tissues can be penetrated deeply through trigger point therapy, which will in turn, help expedite recovery. It is also possible for a cool spray to be applied by a chiropractor to relieve muscle spams and to stretch out soft tissues that are injured.

Physical therapy is an important component of holistic care. In most cases, a chiropractor provides patients with an exercise routine specific to their condition or injury. The practitioner also takes other factors into consideration, such as age, fitness level, and any other health concerns a patient may have.

Soft tissues can be restored with therapeutic stretching to boost overall mobility. These efforts can do much to prevent subsequent injuries Therapeutic exercise diminishes muscle deterioration and pain. It also strengthens and stabilizes the affected area for increased range of motion. Chiropractic care offers an all-inclusive and all-natural way to alleviate back pain.
