Biomedicines as a branch of medicine mainly applies to biology and physiology. This field does not only apply to medical science but also other fields mainly related to biology and health.

Many subspecialties fall under biomedicine, especially those that bear the bio prefix. Some of them include biological engineering, biostatistics, cytogenetics, genetics, biotechnology, virology, pathology, anatomy, cell biology, physiology, toxicology, and molecular biology among many others. Most of these fields have many things in common. In fact, it is simple for a student to switch between them through short transitional courses.

Laboratory diagnostics and modern health care subspecialties involve medical biology. Such subspecialties handle scientific and technological methods in broad range. Such approaches cut across not only biology but also physiology. In this field, comprehending relations at the molecular level and the outcomes at the level of in vivo are the methods used here. A study is done on such methods so as to assist to create fresh tactics for diagnosis and therapy.

Biomedicine helps to detect diseases in people, plants and animals and then goes ahead to investigate them. This field is important in helping to come up with devising of medical intervention approaches. Contrary to the whole field of medicine, biomedicine is more involved with bettering the health of an individual affected. In contrast, medicine mainly aims at curing a disease an individual has been diagnosed with.

Molecular biology is a very important branch within the field of biomedicine. It deals with the process of synthesizing and regulating protein, RNA, and DNA in cells. There are various techniques used in molecular biology, which include Gel electrophoresis, macromolecule blotting, and polymerase chain reaction. All these techniques are used in manipulating DNA in humans and animals.

With polymerase chain reaction, primers, nucleotid bases, DNA, and DNA polymerase are mixed and then placed in a machine. The machine functions is to heat and cool the combination at fluctuating temperatures. This procedure helps to split the bonds of hydrogen which hold and bond together the DNA. As a result, nucleotide bases add themselves into the DNA strands. Such process enables the formation of a new template of DNA strand.

Another method utilized in molecular biology is Gel electrophoresis. This method makes it possible to identify same DNA in samples of unknown DNA. This technique entails the formulation of an agarose gel which has wells where DNA is poured before applying an electric current. After the above procedure is done, the DNA strands get attracted to the positive electrode but this is conditional to the protein groupings contained in the DNA.

The speed at which DNA strands move to the positively charged electrode usually vary because the strands are of different sizes. It is possible to tell if two strands are similar from the pattern they exhibit in their movement. Similar strands will tend to move at the same speed and have the same pattern.
