Important Facts About Russellville Breast Surgery

By Debra Campbell

There are generally three categories of cosmetic surgeries. The types are breast augmentation, reconstruction and reduction. For residents of Russellville breast surgery should be well-understood before one gets to consider the procedure. Augmentation of breasts is done to improve the size, contour and appearance. There are a number of reasons why a woman would consider augmentation. For once, it could be because the breasts are very small and thus they need to increase the size. Others also consider it because of change in breasts after surgery.

Augmentation is performed using implants which are placed under chest muscles or over them. The incisions can be placed within the armpits or at the area around the nipples. All forms of augmentation are minimally invasive. Implants are made of silicone shell which is filled with salt solution or silicone gel. In order to determine the desired size, a woman fits trial implants. Augmentation is a procedure that is relatively straightforward but like other forms of surgery, there are expected risks.

Reduction of breasts is a surgical procedure that is common in women whose breast are large and heavy. They experience a level of discomfort such as neck pains, back pains and in some cases, numbness. These are caused by weight of breasts. The procedure involves removing excessive tissues and fat. After the surgery is completed, there might be some change in sensation of breasts and inability of mothers to breastfeed. Most women report improvement after the surgical procedure.

There is reconstruction which is a possible procedure too. It is the procedure which is performed in those women who have gone for mastectomy. It helps to recreate breasts with the desired appearance, the right contour and right volume. There is also recreating of aureolas and nipples. The normal breast sensation or their function might not return in case sensory nerves are removed.

With the use of implants, there can be change in appearance, contour and volume of breasts. Another option is the use of tissues from the woman. In case implants are used, they should be sized to match that of the opposite breast. The implants can be placed beneath chest muscles. In some instances, there could be requirement of surgery on the opposite breast which is normal so that there is creation of symmetry with the one that is to be newly reconstructed.

The other surgical procedure is breast lifts. In some women, the skin is not as strong and thus cannot support weight of the breasts. That will cause sagging of breasts. With that condition, known as ptosis, there will be too much skin compared to tissues. In order to give the breasts the needed lift, there should be removal of excess skin. The surgical procedure involves some permanent scarring. Appearance of scars can however be minimized.

As regards whether insurance covers the procedure, that is not always the case. However, it will be covered by insurance if the reconstruction is to be done after mastectomy. If it is to be done as a cosmetic procedure, it will not be covered.

One should be certain of costs to be incurred. That should be determined in prior. Also important to know is that if one goes for the procedure for cosmetic purposes, their health premiums are likely to rise.
