Military operations are very critical and those in the base need to know the whereabouts of the other men in the field. Hence, communication systems are very helpful in such critical situations, especially in asking for backups when the situation gets out of hand. When it comes to military communication systems, radio and antenna devices are the most reliable. There are light antennas but they do not guarantee high frequency signals. Most of the time, size and weight are the primary issues with military antennas.

Radio communications is one of the most reliable and convenient ways to connect with men on the base or on battlefields. In designing a military Antenna Mast, it is essential to consider the materials, size, and bandwidth. Moreover, the costs need to be taken into account. One of the most preferred radio communication system is called RF antenna. This does not have a very appealing design but it is the most reliable in communicating through wireless means.

The RF antenna is very common but users tend to complain on how heavy and big they are. They are often inconvenient to bring in battle areas because the men still have to bring heavy loads of bullets, ammunitions, and firearms. Hence, manufacturers and designers are having a dilemma regarding how they can actually resize it into smaller versions, as requested.

However, experts have outlined their concerns regarding the mast sizes. They have indicated that the bigger and taller the device is, the higher is its tendency to capture frequencies no matter how low the signals are. Such equipment are even a few inches to a few feet taller than the actual size of an adult man.

Unfortunately, there is still no known device and innovation of antennas that are handier and least heavy. If there already are, it would be much easier for the army to carry them while on the battlefield or wherever they may be assigned. But the professionals are on their way as they are continuously finding ways to make this possible.

Many are suggesting to use the cell phone innovation instead to use in war areas. This could be the answer of the plea of the soldiers to have a really small and handy antenna to use for connecting with their comrades. But experts say that this is not as easy as it seems. A less scientific explanation that will best describe the reason why these cannot be used is that it is susceptible to many kinds of interferences.

There is a need to modify first the structure of the cell phones to make its signals reach extensive distances. Phones normally need ground based signals to function more effectively. Most war zones have very limited or no access at all because of very few or even absence of infrastructures for phone networks.

Hence, only RF communications systems are suitable in these areas, the experts reiterate. But applications engineers are already finding ways to shrink down the size of these antennas although it is nearly impossible to do so. Studies and experiments are still ongoing while the demand for smaller devices for battle increase dramatically.

Also, satellite communications are very efficient. These can be used in information dissemination quicker and more efficiently. These are the ones being used by armies to report the locations of enemies using communication codes.
