The condition known as peripheral neuropathy affects over half of all diabetics. This condition is caused when the nerves do not transmit signals to the body normally. It causes pain, tingling and a numb feeling in the arms or legs. At North Royalton Chiropractic, clients find help in alleviating the pain and other sensations it causes.

Approximately twenty million people are affected by this disorder. Diabetes is not the only disease that causes it. Some sufferers have the condition due to infections, tumors or autoimmune disorders. For some, chiropractic care is not appropriate. The chiropractor will refer those individuals to the appropriate health care provider. Many cases are due to subluxation, which is a misalignment of the spinal vertebrae.

The pain can be severe to excruciating and can be intermittent or constant. You are on your way to discovering the benefits of chiropractic relief when you make your first appointment. Your spine is thoroughly examined at that first meeting. Range of motion capabilities are measured. The onset, intensity and duration of the pain is discussed at length. A medical history will record answers to all relevant questions.

Until the evaluation is completed, no care can be given. In some cases an x-ray and further testing may be necessary. Your posture may be observed in both a sitting and standing position. A full assessment is crucial in deciding what care is appropriate.

If the spinal adjustments are determined to be appropriate, a series of appointments are made for them. These will relieve the pressure on the nerves to alleviate the pain. Along with the adjustments, nutritional counseling is provided. Foods rich in antioxidants are beneficial. They fight the free radicals in the body that prevent healing.

Massage may be done to relieve the hurt by relaxing tight muscles in the back. You may be given a list of low-impact exercises to follow. As the subluxations in the spinal column are corrected, your pain will be alleviated. This happens in increments over time.
