Anyone who has ever been injured at work knows the experience is very stressful. When you first visit the chiropractic provider you will be handed a number of papers to complete regarding the injury you sustained while at work. The next step is to provide a complete medical history and undergo a physical exam. Lab tests may also be ordered. The SE Portland chiropractor will then develop a plan to help heal the injury.

In addition to paperwork, you will have the opportunity to get familiar with the practitioner and office staff. This will give you an idea of what you can expect during your appointments. Often, the forms the patient needs are provided online so they can be completed prior to your appointment.

Once the practitioner identifies the root of your problem a plan of therapy is custom designed. This plan will consist of three phases that will restore proper functioning and health. The body has a natural ability to heal itself. However, the practitioner needs to apply therapies to promote the self-healing.

In phase one, the practitioner provides relief care. The patient is often time in much pain at their first appointment. The practitioner will focus on relieving the pain and discomfort. The seriousness of the injury will determine how many phase one appointments are needed.

In the second phase, the practitioner uses corrective and restorative therapies. The muscles and the surrounding tissues are given the chance to heal. The therapies will help the patient avert any further injury. During this phase, the patient will be seen as many as eight times a month up to a 24 month period.

The third stage is the wellness care phase. This is the period in which the body has completely healed and only periodic spinal adjustments to prevent future injury. These visits to the practitioner are quick and will only schedule one to four times a month.
