Those with anxious thoughts all the time may pop sedating medications in their mouths. However, many are actually wary of doing that because of some nasty side effects. Read on if right now you're hunting for a self help technique for anxiety because you cannot see yourself taking any of those medications. Below you will learn why exercising is a wonderful idea.

Contrary to popular belief, exercising is not only ideal for individuals who wish to lose excess pounds. It is also something that's recommended for those who like to fend off serious medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. Basically, exercising is suited for anyone who wants to live a long and healthy life.

Exercising is also beneficial for individuals who are suffering from a mental illness like anxiety. It's for the fact that it helps increase happy hormones in the brain. According to medical professionals, there are many different things that can be blamed for anxiety, and an imbalance in the chemicals in the brain is just one of those. Other examples include experiencing severe stress, encountering a traumatic life experience and inheriting the mental illness from a parent.

By having the levels of happy hormones increased, it's less likely for an individual to have a lot of anxious thoughts all the time. It's for the same reason why exercising on a regular basis is also recommended for people who are suffering from depression. Having the mood regulated by means of those happy hormones can be very beneficial for them.

Getting one's regular dose of exercise is also an excellent way to lower the levels of stress hormones. Mental health experts say that hormonal imbalance is something that can cause anxious thoughts to attack, too. Someone who already suffers from anxiety may experience aggravation of the problem if the levels of hormones are out of whack.

Those who suffer from the mental illness are encouraged to exercise outdoors. Such is done in order to promote exposure to sunlight. Allowing the skin to be touched by direct sunlight allows for the generation of vitamin D. There are many roles played by the said vitamin. Some of them include boosting the immune system, strengthening the bones and fighting off cancer.

Health professionals admit that vitamin D is essential for getting your mood stabilized, too. Based on a lot of researches, many people who have the mental illness are deficient in vitamin D. The best source of this mood regulating nutrient is the sun, although you can also get it from foods like cheese, egg yolks, beef liver and fish, too. In order to obtain good amounts of vitamin D, spend 15 to 30 minutes under the sun. To fend off skin cancer, however, you should stay indoors after 10 am and before 4 pm.

Make sure that you consult your doctor before starting a regular exercise regimen. This is most especially true if you are used to a sedentary lifestyle or you have a known medical condition. If your mental illness is keeping you from having a normal life, consider paying a therapist a visit.
