What Are Hives And What Causes Them

By Emery Danziger

Hives or urticaria are skin aversions that show red and itchy bumps on ears, tongue, skin and even the lips. Hives are known to be travelers in some other part of the body and has the capability to change its shape and size. Hives appear to be pale in color and is a response brought on once the body counter allergens. Which means that they can occur any time of the day. They are also seen to appear and disappear at different times of the day. It has the tendency to come out in the morning and be gone by afternoon, and then reappears during night time.

Hives are categorized into 3 types, according to the amount of time they last:

1. Severe - This particular type only looks for a very short time. Lasting for days or up to 1 week, this type is common to many. This could be brought about by an infection like the cold virus and drugs like pain killers and muscle relaxants, insect's stings such as bees and wasps, allergies from some foods like nuts. Commonly, hives appear 30 minutes, soon after consuming the food

2. Chronic - This type shows up for a month and a half, and may even extend to a year. This type of hives upset daily routines as it appears and vanishes repeatedly, and its causes are unknown.

3. Physical - This is typically a result of excessive heat from the sun or unexpected changes of temperature. Normally, holding on to something at a prolonged time would bring out this type of hives.

Causes As plasma in the blood seeps out through tiny vessels of the skin, this type of skin reaction shows up. Moreover, this is in response to histamine that are released by mast cells located around blood vessels. Hives are then brought out once the fluid leaks on the skin surface. Histamine is liable for the characteristics of hives; redness, itching and the swelling.

Allergies Hives is considered as an outcome of allergic reactions in usual instances. Bee stings, food, sunlight exposure and medications are part of this. They are accountable of histamine release that reacts to the skin.

Despite the reality that there are no confirmed factors that cause hives, there are 3 reasons which link to its appearance:

(a) Idiopathic This means that the break out of hives has no known cause. They just appear when they do and vanish without warning too.

(b) Immunological Alterations in the immune system can cause hives. The appearance of hives is induced by histamine secretions as a result of immune system triggers.

(c) Non-immunological This is when several substances result in the release of histamine without any other connection to the immune system. Hives can show up if a person gets in contact with these substances.

Moving away from these causes can avoid allergic reactions like hives from showing up.
