Basic Information About Salon Supplies

By Celia Hall

The facilities that offer an assortment of cosmetic treatments for both men and women are commonly known as beauty salons, parlors or shops. These businesses may provide hair services, nail services, health services or a variety of these treatments. Many different types of salon supplies are needed to carry out the services offered at these facilities.

The treatments that are offered will determine what items are required for operation. At businesses that focus on hair services, equipment used to cut and style hair will be necessary. A cart or trolley may be needed for furniture to allow for storage of tools that are used on a regular basis. Hair dryers, special sinks and other furniture is commonly found at these places.

Salons that offer spa-like services, such as oxygen therapy, mud baths, tanning, facials, foot care, skin health and massages may require other supplies. Tables for clients to lie down on and special products for the treatments are just a couple examples. At these facilities, extra attention may go into making sure the surroundings are as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

Nail salons need special furniture, such as foot baths and chairs. The various items employed to do pedicures and manicures will also be necessary, such as polish removers and nail polishes. Most salons provide waxing, threading and similar hair-removal services. Each of these treatments involves use of different products and tools too.

In all such facilities, towels will be used often and should be ordered in bulk. Employees and clients may need to use capes and certain apparel during different processes. Sanitation is extremely important and requires use of special cleaning products on many items. Many salons sell goods to customers, which may include their own brand of products.

There are many companies that sell these items in bulk, which is where most salons make their purchases. Facilities that are small or do not use a lot of supplies may buy items in smaller quantities. This is one of many options. Still, not all stores carry what is needed in these settings. Therefore professional salons purchase most products from companies that stock the special products they require.

Distributors have a large amount of products in stock, for instance: educational tools, retail displays, hair care products, salon accessories, brushes, disinfection, bottles, cutlery and furniture. Although the cost of each product will differ, these items are usually less expensive in bulk quantities. Owners or managers of salons should keep track of inventory to ensure that what is needed is purchased in a timely matter. This is done so that the supplies needed to carry out various treatments are always available.

Salon supplies can be purchased at stores or many distributors. Owners of these businesses typically buy items in bulk. Not all shops require the same supplies and equipment. However, distributors are a one-stop shopping destination for many salons because they provide all of the products necessary to carry out these services. Prices will vary depending on the manufacturer, quantity and item. Buying bulk is preferable.
