Have These Bug Out Bag Supplies

By Claudine Hodges

There are many people who are prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. The reason could be a natural disaster, possible terrorist attack, foreign invasion, or collapse of our government. If you find yourself needing to run and in a hurry, you should have these important bug out bag supplies packed and ready to go. The idea is to have enough supplies to last three days not for long term survival. Just enough time to get you to a safe place or for rescue to arrive.

Clean drinking water is the most important thing you must have access to. The minimum amount necessary for survival is one liter per day per person. You can carry three liters, but if you plan on living longer than that, you need a purification system to carry. That can be accomplished with iodine tablets or a small kettle or pot for boiling water.

You are going to need energy while hiking or hiding. Protein bars and nuts are an excellent source of energy. Also, have camping freeze dried meals or military grade Meals Ready to Eat, (MRE). The MRE's can be eaten cold or hot and your pot for boiling water is the perfect place to heat them.

The clothing you take should be weather and locale appropriate. Have a pair of long pants, preferably not jeans, two shirts for layering, and a jacket that will keep you warm and dry. You also need a hat, two pairs of socks, long underwear that is warm, and a bandana. Do not skimp on your footwear and have a pair of good sturdy boots or shoes.

There are many lightweight tents that will fit in your kit as does a tarp. In addition, you need good ground cover to keep you dry so take either a sleeping pad or a ground tarp. A good sleeping bag or bedroll is also essential.

A first aid kit put together by you may save your life. So put in it everything you could possible need. Items such as prescription medications, sun block, instant cold packs and hot packs, plus allergy and diarrhea tablets, and aspirin will go a long way.

You may be thinking that is it, all set and ready to go. No, there is more. You must have a good hunting or survival knife, and a small pot or large cup to boil water in. Do not overlook having a hatchet and matches or a lighter. In addition, you need to know several ways to start a fire with out them in the event they get lost or your matches get wet. Having a fire may end up saving you.

Hopefully you will never need to use your bag. However, you do not want to find yourself unprepared. Be certain to include the listed items first, then add to them anything else you can carry and feel you will need to make it through three days or longer if needed. Having these few items can save your life.
