Fibromyalgia is a condition caused by an atypical stress response in your body. Fibromyalgia patients experience muscle tightening that causes them to lose their flexibility. A Charlotte NC chiropractor can help reduce the amount of movement lost in muscle and spine.

This condition causes increased deposits of protein in muscles. The protein is usually found in the bones, muscles, and connective tissues in the body. Its purpose is to regenerate, prevent tearing, and strengthen tissue. Unfortunately, in folks suffering with fibromyalgia the muscles are unable to heal themselves completely.

In these folks, there is a buildup of an unusually large quantity of the protein in injured areas. This protein combined with spasms create painful muscle knots. In addition, movement of the spine is lost causing the muscles to tighten even more. This muscle tightening is the result of a neurological reflex.

Unfortunately this is a cycle that continues that eventually leads to an increase in muscle tightening, pain, difficulty sleeping, and loss of movement. In addition, over time the individual will notice that there are an increasing number of trigger points in the body. The one option the chiropractic practitioner has is to continue adjusting the spine.

It is not unusual for people with the condition to visit the practitioner three or more times a month for spinal adjustments. The adjustments help relax the spine and muscles to keep them moving. The muscles in these patients are not able to completely self heal so to prevent harm the adjustments are modified to be more gentle.

Modifications to the adjustments will lower the amount of stress that is placed on the smaller muscles that support the spine. These muscles can easily be injured so it is important that the doctor has knowledge of the changes that the condition causes. Make sure that the practitioner you choose is well educated about fibromyalgia.
