Every young girls remembers the horrors of middle school...the awkwardness, the boys, and worst of all puberty! And what girl can forget the revulsion of waking up one morning to find hair in places you never expected. The embarrassment of changing in the locker room in front of your peers and the constant pain from cutting yourself in the shower with the cheap pink disposable razors from the grocery store. For those of us with dark hair, the scariest moment during this ever changing time was the realization that you were growing upper lip hair. What is more humiliating than trying to cover upper lip hair, hoping the boy you were dating wouldn't notice as he leaned in to kiss you!

Like all young girls I tried to hide this horrible problem with hair removal products that burned and smelled, I even begged my mom to allow me to have my lip waxed bi-monthly. After years of frustration and self consciousness my parents surprised me for graduation with laser hair removal treatments. Imagine my happiness knowing that I would go to college hair free, never worrying that the girl in the shower beside me would witness the weekly “shaving of the lip” ritual.

I immediately booked my appointment, wanting this problem gone before I packed for college. No one bothered to warn me the excruciating pain, redness and swelling that came with the treatments. The fifteen minutes spent under the laser were the longest of my life. Did beauty really come with such a high price? But, I sucked it up and was diligent in attending my treatments all summer, even if it meant canceling my weekend plans to wait for the swelling and redness to subside. The worst part of the treatment, was that after three months of college I woke to find the hair above my lip returning. My parents had wasted their money, and I had wasted my time on a treatment that was bogus...and off to the drugstore I went to buy creams and razors to combat the problem.

My first job moved me from the South down to the warmth of Florida, where my dreams of lounging daily on the beach were cut short with the realization that living on the beach meant shaving every day. My morning ritual quickly became tedious and time consuming, always allowing an extra half an hour to make sure my body was hair free for the day. My grocery bill became slightly more expensive as I began using more razors and shaving cream than I ever had before.

During my morning commute and advertisement for Body Details laser hair removal Aventura aired. Extremely skeptical, based on past treatment experiences, but extremely desperate to minimize my daily beauty regime, I called the number and booked a free consultation. The staff at Body Details immediately struck me as knowledgeable and professional. I was educated on the different types of lasers used for hair removal, and quickly learned that my first treatment had been performed with an IPL laser, which most often leaves patients with burns and skin irritation without ever fully killing the hair follicle. Not completely sold, but intrigued by their true laser technology, I decided to try their product on the dreaded upper lip area.

I braced myself for another excruciating treatment and weekend of recuperation, secretly wondering if it was even worth a second try. My five minute treatment with Body Details true laser was amazing. The staff made me comfortable and the treatment was virtually pain free. The minimal swelling that occurred had subsided by dinnertime and there were no residual effects of treatment. Following the treatment my upper lip remained hair free for weeks, leaving me so impressed that I was eager to continue my treatments and add treatments for the remainder of my body.

Now my mornings are pain free and the extra thirty minutes of sleep has done wonders for my daily productivity. My wallet thanks me each day that I don't have to buy overpriced razor, shave gels and hair removal creams. Just the simple act of waking on a Saturday morning and venturing to the beach, knowing my body is hair free and beautiful, makes me walk with a little more confidence!
