Many pregnant women are not aware of the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy. The majority of women fear morning sickness and, of course, the delivery. However, many women find that their lower back takes a large amount of strain, an issue that can become almost unbearable during the last trimester. One of the most common complaints of mothers-to-be, according to the American pregnancy Association, is back pain. On average, 50% to 70% of women suffer from back pain while expecting. And back pain does go far beyond the pain itself. This simple "pain" can cause a whole host of other issues such as sleep interruption, difficulty walking, and headaches all of which can make this magical time far less magical.

What is the cause of back pain? The answer lies predominantly in the added weight of the fetus which inevitably shifts the mother-to-be center of gravity and adds strain to the abdomen and back. Poor posture, maternal weight gain, and a surge in joint-loosening hormones like relaxin and estrogen can contribute as well. Add it all up, and vertebrae can be easily misaligned, causing other aches and pains in joints and muscles. Fortunately, this common ailment can be alleviated through safe chiropractic care. Not only can this treatment reduce pain, it can also prevent the discomfort before it occurs. If you do not have to undergo this pain, why do it? Back and joint pain is one discomfort that can be addressed, after all!

Each licensed practitioner has received the training necessary to provide treatment to mothers-to-be. How to treat women during pregnancy as part of his or her overall training. There are even some practitioners who specialize in this form of treatment. These techniques are used to reduce uterine pressure and soothe the nerves and make chiropractic care safe during pregnancy. The practitioner can also give you suggestions as to how you can reduce pain and improve posture through muscle strengthening. These can make you more comfortable, and also get your body in shape for a healthy delivery.

In addition to seeking care to relieve back pain, pregnant women also turn to chiropractic care during pregnancy because of its high success rate at turning babies in the breech position. The Webster Technique is one technique that is commonly used to naturally relax the ligaments surrounding the uterus so as to shift the baby without the need for an invasive procedure. The baby does not have to undergo any force or pressure. There are no risks associated with this technique. It is usually done late in the pregnancy, since a breech position is only becomes a cause for concern in about the eighth month.

Pregnancy brings with it a great many aches and pains. Receiving the proper care will allow you to stay as pain-free as possible and will reduce the bodys stress so as to improve your delivery. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is one way to make this a most enjoyable time in life, rather than a pain in the neck (or back).
