Generation Clean Has A Lot Of Work To Do

By Jami Weiss

The way we interact with the world has undergone a significant change in the past few decades. Our understanding of the interplay between ourselves and our environment has resulted in a new cohort of children who might as well be called 'Generation Clean'. Born into a polluted world which is starting to claw its way back out of the filth, these kids are faced with a host of industrial problems.

These kids have a wonderful opportunity to make some real change. Solar power, wind energy, and even hybrid electric cars are already in place for them. What they need to do is to increase the momentum of our twenty first century environmental consciousness. This will be considerably easier for them than it was for their parents because the general sentiment in society has changed significantly.

Concrete and abstract philosophies have combined to form a very powerful ideology. For one thing, many kids today have been brought up with a healthy respect for the things they already have. The economic climate has seen better days, and their parents were probably not able to throw large sums of disposable cash about.

Growing up in a household which prizes economy and reuse has most likely had a profound effect on these kids' appreciation for saving. Just as their parents sought to put a stop to the accelerating environmental decline, they seek to improve things. They must reverse the damage caused by the industrial activity of the past.

Economy and efficiency go hand in hand. Waste reduction and recycling programs are second nature to this cohort. They know that 'green' is more than just a color, it's a philosophy.

By focusing on alternative sources of sustainable and renewable energy, they can begin to wean themselves off fossil fuels. This addresses a couple of important issues simultaneously. Not only is the move away from limited and polluting materials a smart idea when there is all this sun and wind to harness, but the global economics of the oil trade seem to be increasingly problematic as the resource dwindles. These children are in the perfect position to eliminate their dependence on foreign production as well as encourage and improve upon existing environmentally responsible concepts in power production.

This is starting to happen all over the world. Not simply confined to North America, hundred if not thousands of kids in Europe, Asia, and Africa are all part of Generation Clean. They are our best hope for a better world. Read more about: generation clean
