Any kind of collision can cause what is called a whiplash injury. It can be two football players running into each other on the playing field. It can be an auto accident. If the accident results in this injury and pain, there is a prominent Norwalk Chiropractor available to provide pain alleviation for the victim.

That hurt often develops within a day of the collision. In some cases it begins immediately. In other instances it can take several days to start. Every person reacts to an accident differently, and experiences the hurt in their own way.

A chiropractor uses his knowledge and experience to devise an individualized care plan for each accident victim. A stiff neck, headaches, dizziness and blurry vision may occur in addition to the hurting. The headaches are most often located at the base of the skull.

Symptoms that are unusual, but, not unheard of are memory loss, inability to concentrate and tinnitus, the continuous ringing in the ears. A vertebra in the neck, or more than one, are out of place. This subluxation, or misalignment of the cervical spine, causes pressure on the nerves.

The neck of a woman is not as strong as a mans. For that reason, women suffer a whiplash injury more frequently than men. The first appointment with the chiropractor is spent evaluating the pain. Questions will be asked.

There will be a physical exam of the neck and the entire spinal column. An x-ray or other tests may be used to view the injured area more clearly. Following a comprehensive evaluation a care plan can be designed.

The goal of care is to realign the subluxated vertebrae in the neck. This is achieved by administering a series of gentle spinal adjustments. When these adjustments realign the spine, the pressure on the nerves is alleviated. This reduces the intensity of pain. Additional features of the chiropractic care plan may include mild stretching exercises to be performed at home between appointments. This is to relax the tight muscles and keep them relaxed.
