By Lena Stephenson

It is often said that hair is the crown of a woman. Women spend so much time and money on keeping it right. Natural hair is a little bit more difficult to maintain and requires much more attention and love. To maintain it right, you must first begin by working with it and not against. There are more natural hair care tips to follow to obtain the best results.

If you want to go natural, you must first understand your hair, its texture, length, shrinkage and porosity. For starters, it is good to understand that there is no such thing as right or wrong texture. Long or short always work depending on the styles you do. However, your hair looks, feels or appears, you must understand it so as to take care of it in the right way.

So, you definitely need a care routine that is as simple as washing, conditioning and moisturizing. Keeping your natural dry is a sure way to cause tangling and breakage. Washing and conditioning should be on a regular basis. At least once a week is recommended for most individuals, although, people are different. Be keen on the shampoo used, it should not contain sulfates as they strip oils from the scalp.

Conditioning goes hand in hand with the washing. After washing, most proteins found in hair are lost and conditioners serve to replenish them. Consequently, the hair becomes stronger and is able to retain moisture better. To ensure more water is retained, use moisturizers to lock it in. Water based moisturizers with humectants are the best since mineral oil or petroleum ones are sealants.

Sealants lock in moisture in between the follicles preventing it from escaping and subsequently dryness. Oil and butter based sealants are the best for your care routine. In fact, many people use coconut oil, applying it just before washing. Another sealant widely used due to its similarity in composition to sebum is jojoba oil. Olive oil, glycerin and aloe are also favorites among many people.

It is common for people to get confused about the type of products to use. Some groups campaign for all natural, fresh from the farm. Others swear by synthetic products manufactured by the big industries, they undergo testing, right? However, the best product for you is the one that actually works. Whether synthetic or natural, as long as it works, that is the best.

Do not stress about most of the products, since they are readily available. In fact, most of them are right in your kitchen. For instance, avocado, honey, apple cider vinegar, olive oil and coconut milk are great and are available in your kitchen. The pH is also important to watch out for. Products with a pH of 3.5 to 7 are alright, but if you are not sure, it is best to check using pH testing strips.

Straight or curly hairs require different techniques to keep them in good shape. If you go out of your way to ensure that it is moisturized and breakage and tangling are minimal, you are on the right path. There is really no right or wrong procedure or product, what matters is you find and use what works for you.
