When most people hear that they have contracted hepatitis C, they immediately fall into a slump because they would be stuck with a disease that can cause complications for life. However, living with hepatitis C may not necessarily lead to that kind of life because there are ways to manage it well and maybe eventually cure it if one can. If one ha been tested positive, then here are some of the things to do.

Just to give a very short background, this disease is actually the most prevalent in baby boomers although it does happen among Gen X and Gen Y people too. It is also known as HCV and is a disease that does not show symptoms until much later in life. For that very reason, many people actually do not know if they have the disease or not.

Take note that it is a disease that can pretty much easily be spread by sharing medical equipment, hygiene tools, and other things that enter the body. When contracted, one may either have an acute type which is the type that can be cured after six months or so. One may also have the chronic one which does not leave the body until years later and may result in complications like liver failure.

Of course, there are treatment methods that are available for this type of disease. The only challenge would be tracking down which HCV type one contracted as there are a number of them to go through. However, doctors have stated that the most common type is the type one HCV followed by the type four HCV.

Medicines are usually administered in this early stage because the HCV could still be acute. One of the best medicines to give is Elbasvir. This is a pill one takes once a day if he or she has type one or type four HCV. There are other medicines as well such as Glecaprevir and Ledipasvir.

It would be harder to cure of the HCV has already reached a chronic stage although still quite possible if approached properly. However, just medicines will not work anymore as the liver may already start to be affected. In this case, one may actually need to change his or her lifestyle.

So the first step here is to constantly test the liver to ensure it is still in a good state. Next, one has to have a healthier diet consisting of more fruits, veggies, lean meat, and absolutely no sugar. Other than that, one needs to stop drinking, stop smoking, start exercising, and get eight hours of sleep per day.

Changing lifestyle and taking medication at the same time is quite effective so far. It will also be a big help if one would take some supplements that can be used for strengthening the liver. If one does all that diligently, then it is possible to keep the virus at bay or even cure it. Of course, consistency is key when treating it.
