Many patients suffering from pain in their joints, back, or neck find that that more than one appointment is necessary to correct the issue. Unfortunately, many patients are needlessly suffering from the belief that their practitioner will essentially steal their money from them by convincing patients that they require weekly appointments even if no treatment is actually needed. Doing so would both be an ethics violation as well as a betrayal of the chiropractor's goal of accomplishing treatment in the most simple and natural way possible.

Chiropractors are well trained in the body's ability to naturally heal itself when it becomes injured or misaligned. Based upon a number of factors, the chiropractor will correctly determine the number of weekly chiropractic appointments that are necessary. The goal of a chiropractor during these chiropractic appointments is to help the patient improve his or her quality of life through the restoration of movement and the elimination of pain.

The type of pain that you experience, chronic pain or acute pain, will determine the number of visits that may be needed Also, the length of time that a vertebrae has been misaligned can make a difference. When the joint is out of place the soft tissue and muscles around the joint are also affected. The muscles protect the misaligned joint by stiffening, which can make it harder to realign. The joint can be placed back into position in the joint cavity once the muscles are stretched and can move more freely.

Depending upon the extent of a misalignment, it may be necessary to gradually correct the problem over several weekly chiropractic appointments so as to avoid causing additional pain in a patient. Although many general practitioners only require one visit to treat the issue, keep in mind that this is primarily because they prescribe medications which is quick to do but only covers the problem and does not correct the root cause of the pain. Although the problem may seem to have disappeared with the drug, eventually the discomfort will return and you will be forced to return to the doctor.

In order to heal the misalignment and permanently relieve the pain, the patient should schedule an appointment with a chiropractor so as to begin a path of true healing. At your first appointment, the chiropractor will perform a thorough evaluation of your vertebrae and symptoms in order to determine the best treatment plan for your needs. Although a chiropractic appointment can take awhile, particularly if it is your first visit, the practitioner will be able to analyze your symptoms, determine the root cause of your discomfort, and immediately begin treatment so as to improve your quality of life. Although the chiropractor may require that you attend a follow-up appointment or even several, the majority of patients will only require a few and not a lifetime of commitment to a chiropractor treatment regimen.
