Electronic cigarettes are electrical devices which simulate the act of smoking. They do no use real tobacco but instead emit a flavored mist which is has a similar taste, appearance, and physical sensation. The electronic cigarettes often have the same nicotine content as real cigarettes but with far fewer negative health implications. They can be incredibly useful if you are trying to quit smoking. If you are interested in this product then most companies offer a starter kit which will provide all the basics you need.

All electronic cigarette starter kits will include the main shell of the product. They are made up of separate pieces which clip together to look and feel like a real cigarette. Most models consist of a rechargeable battery, an atomizer (which heats the liquid), and a cartridge/mouthpiece which is disposable and contains the liquid. It is the heated liquid that is used to emulate the smoke. Some also feature an LED light at the end to give the impression of a lit cigarette.

The liquids have varying levels of nicotine in them which you can choose to suit your preference. If you are trying to quit smoking you could lower this amount gradually over time. The cartridge they come in is usually a small plastic container, often colored brown to look like the end of a real cigarette.

There are a wide range of flavors of liquid available depending on the brand you chose. Most starter kits will offer a selection of them. Ordinary tobacco, cherry, coffee, menthol, or vanilla are all an option.

The battery section of this product is usually non-disposable and requires charging. Some chargers need a USB or mains connection and can be designed to look like cigarette packets. There are also portable versions that contain a large battery which in turn charges the small batteries in the individual e-cigarettes.

The atomizer (heating element) makes up the middle section of the e-cigarette. This part draws the liquid in and then vaporizes it to produce a mist, the mist is then funneled back down the cigarette into the mouthpiece. This piece often loses efficiency over time as sediment builds up inside it and may need to be replaced.

There is much debate about the health risks associated with these products. They are undoubtedly much safer than traditional cigarettes as they contain no tar or carbon monoxide. They do however still contain nicotine, though often at a lower dose. Due to the fact that they are relatively new, there are few detailed health studies about their safety. They have been shown to effectively lower cigarette dependency especially when nicotine levels are reduced over time.

Electronic cigarettes are sometimes only suitable for people aged 18 and over depending on where you live. They can be a great way to quit smoking more painlessly that stopping abruptly. They are also far most cost effective than smoking. In the long run they can save up to 80% of the price, because each cartridge lasts for 40 smokes.
