Restylane

By Marten Ranheim

Dermal fillers are being used often these days for a variety of cosmetic reasons. Wrinkles on skin become smoothed out, and the it results in looking more healthy and less aged, as fine lines are reduced using a process such as this. It is also a useful lip filler.

Here, Restylane will be briefly examined.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is the trade name for the dermal filler manufactured by the company Q-Med. It consists of non-animal based hyaluronic acid, which is a natural component of skin. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the US, approved Restylane filler in 2003 for cosmetic injections for skin injections in the face. Using a fine needle, this clear gel is administered to patients.

People have hyaluronic acid inside them already, as it is a natural for the body to contain it. Its structure is so designed that its presence in tissues in fact contributes to its tightness and firmness. It is this property that makes it an excellent dermal filler as it improves the tone of the skin and smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles.

Typical Onset of Action for Restylane

Restylane takes effect right away in most cases, but there are some applications that are not completely noticeable for up to 7 days. Hyaluronic acid meshes with the water in the tissue beneath the skin, and this results in fuller lips and skin on the face.

Typical Duration of Action

A Restylane injection will typically be good for about six months before the effects are mostly dissipated. If patients notice changes back to the previous state, then further injections will be required to maintain the cosmetic appearance previously achieved.

How the Treatments Benefit Patients

Restylane has been shown time and again to produce remarkable results when it comes to cosmetic improvement. The recovery time is very quick and the cases of patients having side effects are rare.

Treatment Recovery Time

The minor side effects which sometimes result from treatments with Restylane are the only issues with recovery. The common side effects include bruising at the site of infection, mild redness and occasionally a bit of bleeding. Aspirin or other blood thinners can be a cause of these side effects as well, so if a patient is taking these, there is usually a recommendation to pause for the treatment procedure to happen. If there is a big social gathering in the near future, it might be wise to wait until after to get the treatment, because at times a few days is needed to recover fully.

Competitors in the Market

The competitors to Restylane that are available on the market are Perlane, Belotero and Juvederm. Restylane and Perlane seem to be the preferred treatments. One of the biggest benefits of Restylane treatments is that it stays in the place where it was injected, and doesn't move into surrounding areas. There are also different structures microscopically between these different treatment types.

The costs of treatment are comparable depending on who administers the treatment and where it is administered. For a typical treatment, it can go from about $500, and could even be as high as $700 for injections.

Summary

Treatments of Restylane are one of the more modern ways to enhance skin through cosmetic treatments. It is safe and effective and offers excellent results when performed by experts.
