A fall at work may have caused you to injure your back. Alternatively, clearing out items from the garage may have caused you to lift something heavy. Maybe you took an ibuprofen in the hopes that the aches would vanish but to no avail. Chronic pain as a result of a personal injury may not always be responsive to therapy of a traditional nature, and drugs like painkillers can form addictions that are very undesirable. Also, when you may venture to think that you have finished healing, pain may linger.

Types of Pain

Nociceptive pain follows personal injury to muscles, tendons or ligaments when undamaged nerve cells transmit false pain signals to the spinal cord and brain. This can cause deep, aching pain, such as arthritis, headaches, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain. Another type is neuropathic pain from nerve function or nerve damage. This results from spinal cord injuries and can be hard to pinpoint or determine.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic care is definitely much safer as an alternative to taking medication for dealing with chronic pain. Something like manipulation of the spine can help you recover and get back to your routine. If you have recently suffered an injury, especially within the past year, and are experiencing lingering pain even after healing, then chiropractic care may be for you.

Manipulating the spine manually provides relief temporarily for chronic pain of the spine. A chiropractor can also assist with determining the exact pain source in other areas of your body, and be able to suggest further adjustment and exercise options. Spine magazine says that 1.5% of those working with injury to the back first visiting a chiropractor needed surgery, in comparison to 42.7% who consulted firstly with a surgeon.

Cervical manipulation can help with particular headaches and pain in the neck. Neck adjustments are good for motion and flexibility. Increased neck motion and reduced neck spasms will take away some pain as well as tension.
