Healthy Ways To Treat A Yeast Infection

By Jeff Setherton

A yeast infection is so common that studies have demonstrated that most females have had experience with at least one of them in their lifetime. Although this type of infection is more common among women, men also are often affected by them. Regardless of the sex of the sufferer, the symptoms are often bad enough that a desire for an immediate cure is very strong.

The most common type of yeast infection affects the vagina, but other mucous membranes and skin also can be affected. Monistat or similar over the counter creams are typically the first choice for treatment but there are other more natural choices also available.

Some of the medications used can cause side effects, so it is desirable to treat a yeast infection naturally to avoid these unwanted effects. This is especially true with some of the prescription drugs used which can cause a number of side effects.

Making changes in your diet is a positive step that can really be beneficial to get started. By making slight adjustments in the intake of certain foods in your diet, you might be able to lower the amount of yeast in your vagina to health levels effectively resulting in a cure.

Perhaps the most significant dietary change of all is removing a lot of the sugar from your diet. Avoiding sugar in your diet is difficult but very helpful in curing and preventing this condition. Many people are fooled into thinking that as long as part of their diet is healthy that they are okay. You must remember that it will take a number of days for any dietary changes to have an impact on yeast levels, so you may not see any changes for a week or so. If you like many people, make sugar a key part of your diet then you certainly should expect to wait up to two weeks before your system normalizes and establishes a healthy balance for yeast and many other organisms.

Wearing only properly fitting clothing (not too tight) will also make an impact in the incidence of a variety of vaginal infections including yeast. Wearing overly tight underwear or pants often is a real contributing factor in the incidence of repeated yeast conditions. Finding slightly looser fitting clothing and natural cotton underwear might make a real difference. This does not mean that you have to wear baggy clothing, your body just needs to be able to breathe and not stay too hot and moist.

Talk to your health care provider if this is the first time that you have a suspected yeast infection or if it is worse than typical or just different, because you want to be sure that it actually is a yeast infection and not something else or more serious. These are just a couple of simple suggestions to help cure your yeast infections more naturally. You may find that stronger medication is necessary, but this is not always the case. Do not automatically assume that using a drug will be necessary for all yeast problems.

Even with a history of yeast conditions, these natural techniques can make repeats stop. Do your homework and learn everything you can and yeast infections can be a thing of the past for you!
