It is difficult for active people to stay put in one place and rest all day for weeks but this is a necessary part of recovering from surgery. Resting for a few days is easy for most people but doing nothing for over 2 weeks can be quite unsettling. To speed up your recovery time, take these tips into account.

To speed up the healing process after an operation, immobilize the affected area. Follow your physician's orders, so if he tells you not to move your leg, then do not walk around. If he tells you to keep your arm in a sling, then you have to do it for your body to heal faster.

It also helps to get enough rest. Sleep all you want and try to go to bed early in the evenings. This relaxes your psych which also helps to relax the body. When you are comfortable, you will heal quickly. Sleeping can also keep you immobile which you need for faster healing.

Drink a lot of liquids, at least 8 glasses a day unless you are on a restricted liquid diet. Drink more pure water and cut down on dehydrating beverages such as coffee. The caffeine in coffee can also keep you awake and restless. It also acts as a diuretic that makes your body lose water.

Before going in for surgery, make sure that you have enough food in your cupboards. A healthy diet with lots of amino acids and protein will promote faster recuperation. Do not stock on junk food, cakes and chocolates. These will just add more sugar and toxins to your body which is not beneficial to your healing process.

You can make your recovery more agreeable by making preparations in advance. Recovering from surgery is possible if you buy books and magazines before the procedure. Have the TV moved into your bedroom and do your groceries to stock on healthy food prior to the operation.
