KJV Audio Bible

By Honorary Rabbi Jo

The King James Version (KJV) Bible is easily the most purchased, most read, most chosen translation of all time. It is not surprising then that it is the first ever recorded in audio format, setting still another record for the KJV. In April, 2011, the KJV commemorated its 400th Anniversary. The Translation was in actual fact finished in the winter of 1610, but, was not presented to the public until April of 1611. It would take the world virtually 350 years to perfect the actual audio edition!

Your Very First Breath of Life For The Word of Life

The KJV Audio Bible we identify today owes lots of its popularity to a superb theatrical voice of Alexander Scourby. He has made the Christian audio Bible what it is today. Throughout his lifetime he taped approximately 500 audiobooks for the blind! Many of them are still available in the Department for the Blind, of the Library of Congress for the use of the legally blind. Despite his numerous professional accolades in the performance and stage community, Alexander identified his recording of those books for the blind as, "...the one work that really means something to me."

He started producing the Bible in the early 1960's, in cases where recording hardware was cumbersome and tedious. Nevertheless even with what would be regarded 'antique' tools by twenty-first century standards, he prevailed in this significant work. 1000s of hours went into every single recording, which Mr. Scourby replicated in multiple translations, not just the King James Version. Some other distinguished voices have likewise created KJV Audio Bibles; among them are James Earl Jones, Stephen Johnston, Eric R. Martin, Max McLean, and Charlton Heston. Besides these, many others are on the market, but measuring just according to sales results, the most famous are still the KJV Audio Bible by either Alexander Scourby, or Stephen Johnston..
