If you spend many hours a day chained to your computer then the chances are you are not getting enough exercise. Spend a little time to look for some muscle building workouts and find a way to work them into your daily routine. Do not wait until it is too late. Getting fit and having a beautifully toned body is something you owe yourself as well as those nearest and dearest to you.

Remember getting fit does not just mean working out. You have to eat right and get enough sleep for a start. If you are a smoker, you have to quite right now. If you are using any kind of drugs, you have to stop. There is no tolerance on this so if you cannot quit then get help. Lots of people will tell you that a little alcohol will not do any harm. Some even recommend a glass of wine with your meal. Maybe a couple of drinks on a Saturday night will not hurt you but if you are serious about getting back into shape, best advice is to quit.

Whether you opt to work out at the gym under the guidance of a personal trainer or follow a video or online routine at home is for you to decide. Many people find the gym a better bet. There are friends around to share your aches and pains with and plenty of advice. You only have to pay for your membership, all the equipment you will need is there. For others, making time at home is easier. There may be young children to be looked after or, if you live out of town, there may not be a gym within easy striking distance. Alternatively you just might prefer to get at it yourself and not have others watching you. You might like to invest in some weights or you may prefer to search online for routines that do not need any equipment at all.

If you are already in reasonable shape but just want to build muscle or get ready for sport, that is great. If however, you have really let yourself go, then a quick health check at the doctor's is indicated. You do not want to damage anything trying to get fit.

Do not be heedless. If your body says it is had enough, listen to it. That does not mean you should take it easy or give up without working up a sweat, but do not overdo it and learn to know when to push a little more and when to stop. You can injure yourself by not warming up and by exercising over tired muscles beyond the point of endurance.

Your aim is to build muscle and lose fat. You need to develop strength by developing all the muscle groups, not just going for 6 pack abs. Your shoulders and chest, triceps and biceps all need special attention. Same applies to your back and legs.

You need to eat a really healthy diet too. Many people take nutritional supplements to help them build up their bodies. Good food, however, is hard to beat. Again talk to your doctor and get advice before taking any kind of miracle product. Vitamins are great.

You have to keep on increasing the number of repetitions you do of each exercise for it to be effective. Push yourself to the limit but not beyond. Then go for more weight. Soon your muscle building workouts will give you a body others will envy.
