The weight loss industry is actually a billion dollar industry in the US today. Together with diet pills and supplements, exercise equipments are also among the products that consumers resort to when they need to lose weight. Let's see how this treadmill vs elliptical trainer goes and which one is more effective for weight loss.

Treadmills still sell at higher rates than ellipticals, but the ellipticals are quickly growing in sales at a faster pace than ever before. So, if you are looking to lose some weight and get in shape, which machine will work out best for you?

The use of treadmills has been a staple for people who are after a good, satisfying workout, whether one is new to exercising or a veteran athlete. In short, the treadmill is a favorite among many because it doesn't really require much for you to get started and yet you can get a lot of health benefits from regularly working out on it. For most treadmills, you can adjust the machine's specifications to keep up with your pace. You can choose to toggle with the speed to make it go faster or slower, and the incline to make it higher or lower. The higher-end treadmills also have built-in modern features like the speaker system for your MP3s, and heart rate monitors. They can be easily folded when not in use. And they give a much less impact on your lower back, knees, and ankles as compared to regular jogging on sidewalks.

While relatively a newbie as a fitness equipment, the elliptical trainer is now widely used in health clubs and gyms. It basically differs from the treadmill in that it provides a whole body workout as compared to the treadmill which focuses more on the lower body. With an elliptical treadmill, one can exercise the legs, the arms, and the whole body in general without having to endure much impact on certain body areas as compared to working out on a treadmill. Because of the low impact, people who have weakened backs, knees, and ankles prefer the elliptical over the treadmill.

What should be your basic considerations when comparing the treadmill vs elliptical trainers for weight loss? Perhaps one is whether you are getting the workout that you really need while effectively losing the extra pounds. It's true that the elliptical offers a more complete body workout but when it comes to burning the calories, the treadmill can also be very effective on that because brisk walking, jogging, and running also lets you expend a lot of energy.

So if you are weighing the pros and cons of a treadmill vs. elliptical trainer for weight loss, it is important to keep the points mentioned above in mind. Some may opt for the high-intensity workout that serious running brings, while others may opt for the whole body and low-impact exercise that the elliptical can provide. The choice is ultimately yours to make. - 27772

I use an elliptical at home , good to have around for times I do not want to walk, run or go jogging.
It gives me a more complete feeling ...I like the treadmills that you can change the incline with , we don't have any hills here where I live.
The choice is still yours , but if I want to walk or run I'll go outside...even if its raining.
