Does Being Greener Have to be Tough?

By Barbara Batty

Lots of folks feel that it will be unreasonably difficult to change their lifestyle and be more earth friendly. Realistically, you can bring down your carbon footprint and help the environment by merely incorporating a few simple changes into your life.

A simple way to live a little more eco friendly is to be sure that you unhook all electric devices when you're not using them. Even when you flip something off, it keeps on using small amounts of power and thus energy. Even though this can be tough in the beginning, once you are in a routine it will become more effortless and will also save you money in the long term.

When you go to the grocery store and use bags to carry your purchases, try to keep the bags once they have been taken out. The next time you go to the store, bring them with you! This will help to decrease the number of bags you use every month, which will save you money on bag purchases and add to less scrap which can cause pollution. Bear in mind that you can easily use these bags to take other items from different places.

You can additionally bring down your carbon footprint by driving less. It is understandable that you may want to drive to your office, the grocery or even visit friends and family but there are often times when you can car pool (use one car for many people) or just walk. If you use the car infrequently you will not only be decreasing the amount of pollution created but also saving money. With increasing gas prices, you stand to see a sizable savings by doing this one thing.

Even though you can lessen pollution using several methods, one area you should think about is the use of plastic water bottles. It is known that the water contained in these bottles is safer but the problem is that they are causing a considerable amount of pollution as they are often tossed after merely one use. Go ahead and drink bottled water if it's something you really need to do. It's a terrific idea, all the same, to use the bottles again as much as possible. You're probably wondering now how exactly can you reuse the bottles. You can buy a water filter that you can use in your plastic bottles and you can put them in the refrigerator for the next use. Once more, as with the other examples given earlier, this will cut down your impact on the environment due to less potential pollution and will also save you money.

On the whole, I am certain that you can see that all these things are quite little changes but collectively they can contribute to make a great difference, both making you more green and also decreasing your monthly expenses. So absolutely, green living is relatively easy if you are resolved to take the first step.
