Different Types Of Herbal Supplements

There has been a recent boom in the demand for herbal supplements in many regions around the world that has seen their use being the newest trend. People try all sorts of pills and concoctions that carry any promise for example reducing levels of stress or sharpening the mind. Many people are quick to experiment with any of the pills to ensure a boost in their general productivity.

In the present market, there are a wide variety of these supplements that can be bought over the counter. Most of these are perfectly safe while others may have some side effects to the health of an individual. Discussed in this article are the various types of the numerous herbal supplements that can be found in the market today.

The ginkgo has become a popular drug for many elder people over 50 as well as students in colleges and other scholars. This is attributed to its ability to increase mental concentration among the users hence increasing sharpness. The drug has also been proved to help in the reduction of memory loss and dementia.

Another common type is the st John wort which is generally used for stress reduction among women. Caution should however be exercised as the drug while reducing the feelings of depression can also lead to mood elevation. A side effect of the drug is increasing the levels of estrogen in the body and this may therefore lead to unplanned pregnancies for the women.

Kava is another form of supplement that is available in many pharmacies everywhere. It is generally used for calming anxiety, restlessness and stress as well as for treating insomnia. A precaution of using the drug is that its excessive consumption may lead to liver problems.

The yohimbe and the Echinacea are two other examples of the supplements in wide use today. The Echinacea is generally used for curing the common cold and reducing its symptoms. The yohimbe however has a variety of different uses. These are namely aiding in weight loss, energy boosts among athletes and curing of various sexual dysfunctions in both women and men.

Some of the above named examples are fairly safe to use while others may have some fatal side effects among the patients using them. The above are however only a few of the numerous herbal supplements used by different people today. Pregnant women and those mothers nursing newly born babies are however sternly cautioned against the use of these drugs as the cause different consequences to their children.
