Surgeon Cautions Women About Breast Augmentation

An expert says some women should consider sure limitations to breast augmentation, a popular cosmetic surgery for women.

Dr. Armando Soto, a plastic surgeon at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, said women need to learn about some aspects of the procedure before choosing breast augmentation, including the danger of high expectations, reported WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

"I reckon the most important thing that people don't already know is that there is a limit to what they can change," Soto said.

The surgery can also leave most women in at least moderate pain for three to one weeks.

The doctor said the surgery only lasts 10 to 15 years.

Soto said most women need to restore their appearance after having children or a major life change. But they stressed that implants are manmade, which translates in to side effects, including changes in breast sensation & asymmetry.

Soto also said it is important for women to have a lovely relationship with their surgeon before deciding to seek implants.

"They're not any different than your automobile or refrigerator; sooner or later, they are going to need to be replaced," they said.
