When I started smoking I didn't realise how hard it would be for me to stop. Everyday I came up with resolutions but at the end of the day found myself desperately clutching onto a cigarette as if it was dear life. My alternative solution wasNRT using nicotine patches and bubble-gums to control the urge, but this was to no avail. I eventually realised that I was trying to quit the wrong way because the problem was really where the addiction started, in my mind. Ever since then I've been using natural methods to quit and these have been more beneficial than anything i had used before. In this article you will discover ways to quit smoking without NRT.

Fill in your standard smoking periods with some other leisure activity or hobby. On the day itself ensure that you don't have access to a cigarette and that you're completely absorbed. Replacement activities like jogging, playing sport and outreach charity retreats work wonders if they are used adequately. Even if you smoke after you won't be smoking as much as you would have if you didn't have a replacement activity.

Constantly remind yourself about the possible risks behind smoking. Cancer, bronchitis and TB are known side effects of smoking that you should tell yourself about every time you decide to smoke. You can even go to the extreme of looking at pictures of damaged lungs just to scare away your addiction. I wasn't able to stop because I still saw the benefits of smoking, I still liked it.

After you do this you should proceed with making a long list of the advantages of not smoking. On average non-smokers live longer than smokers; you're a whole lot healthier when you don't smoke and you will always have more money to spend on other luxuries. What you don't realise is that you still smoke because you see the benefits of smoking instead of the benefits of not, this is a major psychological misconception that has to be changed. Repeat these as a mantra or even draw up a visible list.

Fighting a nicotine addiction problem isn't exactly easy if you try to do so alone. Go out there and sit down with close friends; relatives or peers. Tell them about your problem and insist on them applying whatever pressure they can to make you stop. When people close to you get emotional about your condition you will become more serious about your intention to quit. You can also give them the liberty to throw away your lighters or cigarettes if they see you with them.

Acupuncture works for some people. The urge to smoke is heightened by the fact that endorphins are released when you think of smoking. Endorphins are hormones that make you feel good naturally and their release is triggered by the prospects of pleasure that come with smoking. Now, the needles of acupuncture prompt the release of endorphins into the blood stream. Therefore you won't feel like smoking because endorphin is being discharge into the system, a hormone that will make you feel good without taking a cigarette.

Hypnosis treatment has been working for centuries now when it comes to changing the beliefs that the mind has been taught to believe over the years. As such, hypnosis should be used to change your beliefs about smoking. During this therapy you will be asked to repeat statements that express your desire to quit and the reasons why. Slowly your mind will be taught to see cigarettes in a negative light and eventually you won't feel the urge to smoke.

Natural herbs also work as an alternative to Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Try looking for Lobelia and Passion Flower, they work for some people.
