About thirty percent of American physicians provide primary care. This group includes general pediatricians, family physicians, and general internists. They are the first port of call when people need medical care, as they are trained to cater to all the health requirements that adults and children need. Should a patient need further treatment, the primary care provider will refer him or her to specialist physician.

The field of medicine offers many benefits in terms of personal, intellectual and financial growth. Due to the health care system changing, doctors are turning away from working for themselves and joining HMOs and other health care programs where they often become salaried employers.

It is a challenging career that you will enter into when deciding to become a doctor. The entry requirements into medical school are quite tough. The responsibility that comes with this career is huge. The rewards after completing the studies does make it all worthwhile.
