Are Paraben Free Skin Care Products Safer

By Marcie Raymond

Parabens are a series of preservatives that are added to cosmetics to give their products a longer shelf life. There are no major cosmetic companies that make or sell paraben free skin care products. You will find that virtually every face cream, lotion, bath soap and deodorant contain parabens in at least one, but usually three or four forms.

You will find these chemicals in face creams, deodorants, and ladies make up to name a few. There are several different types of parabens, each one slightly different than the next and you may find four or five of them in one item. The chemical formula of them has been tested and the results show that in ultra-violet lights it actually makes your face age faster. That would cancel any good the face cream may have done.

In studies done on tumors removed from victims of breast cancer scientists found parabens inside the tumors. This discovery ultimately leads to the use of under arm deodorants as a cause of the cancers. It was a small test of twenty women but of those tested eighteen out of twenty came up positive for parabens.

Parabens work like estrogen in the body and estrogen has been shown to cause breast cancer and early onset dementia in adults. There is also proof of children entering puberty as early as eight years old. Young girls have begun developing breasts as well as pubic hair growth.

Because of this children are showing signs of early start puberty. There are cases of eight year old girls developing breasts and pubic hair and blood tests show measurable amounts of parabens are present. Unfortunately, exposure can start at birth because infant care items contain the same preservatives as adult creams and oils.

Imagine rubbing it into your skin twice a day for most of your life. If you are using a product that often it behooves you to make certain that the manufacturer is looking out for your well being as a customer. Because they do not have to prove safety to the government regarding this ingredient they will continue to use it until the consumer will no longer purchase their brand name.

The goal here would be to make sure the producer has the consumers' best interests at heart when he puts a product on the market. We as a nation can change how large corporations do business by not purchasing their merchandise until they change formulas and make them safer. Unfortunately, the truth is that the only way, at this point, to be certain there are no parabens in our personal items is to purchase only items that have been made without them.

Paraben free skin care products are easily found on the internet. There are several companies that carry a full line of beauty products for sale. These items are advertised as having absolutely no parabens in their formulas and one hundred percent safe for children as well as adults. As a conscientious adult it makes sense to not purchase things that may be dangerous even if it is far in the future. It would be to your advantage to purchase items that do not contain these chemicals until it has been shown that they are proven to be safe.
