Tips On Couples Therapy Exercises

By Pat Fuller

Many married persons wrongfully think that experts in couples therapy exercises are referees who oversee their fight and declare the winner. Various reasons drive families to a therapist's office, and with the variety comes numerous options for solutions. Given the therapist's experience in handling various scenarios and marriage problems, they can effectively help a family get solutions by themselves without being told what to do.

All a therapist does is guide clients through actions that facilitate recovery, healing and mending broken or almost broken marriages. A marriage counsellor has to first gather information about the couple. This is the initial stage in counselling.

The problem may be caused by an unrelated issue like health problems. For this reason, the therapist must be aware of your life for him to be a thorough counsellor. The length of time they have been married, the financial situation at home, children issues and relatives are just a few of the information that a counsellor should know of.

Goals of therapy - The therapist should clearly make the couple understand that the sessions are not to for deciding or judging who is right. They only provides an environment where they can find solutions and communicate without fighting. It is a goal setting stage, goals that both of them need to work on progressively over several things overseen by the therapist.

The next exercise involves the expert walking them through their problem and guiding them to find solutions by themselves. He doesn't give solutions or directions. However, they guide those involved mentally and emotionally, so as to find the answers that have been lying in them all this time.

The therapist takes time to walk the two involved through the options so as to find the best solution that all partners are comfortable with. All solutions are found by the couple and not the counsellor. He only guides them in their own thinking and feelings.
