In reality, lemons should be on the top of the list when looking for fruits to aid your asthma, among other illnesses. So if you want to know just how they could help asthmatic patients, read on.

Because they are among the most sour of fruits, lemons are not all that popular. And if not, what they would usually do is to add sugar in their lemon juice - YUCK! In essence these people are drinking junk, because the only way to enjoy lemons and all their healthful goodness is to enjoy them hardcore - no sugar, no preservatives, just fresh, natural SOUR goodness, whether you like it or not.

Here are the reasons why lemon juice is great for asthma sufferers.

It is an antiseptic, meaning it kills clandestine germs found in mucus. It destroys bad bacteria that lives in your mouth, stomach, and intestines It helps to dissolve mucus so when you have a cold or cough you recover quicker. While 8 ounces of water and lemon may not seem like much, it practically slices into the mucus clogging up your bronchial tubes. Helps to cleanse your blood and clean blood makes your lung tissue healthier

Aside from Vitamin C, lemons are also rich in potassium. They also contain plenty of fiber and phytochemicals, which contain antioxidants.

Limit your lemon intake to those that are pure yellow - not a hint of green on them. You can refrigerate lemons for about five to six days before they spoil - just be sure to keep them in a plastic bag. Of course you will need to wait for lemons to reach room temperature before using them for anything.

If you have a surplus of lemons in your fridge, you can make (pure) lemon juice and freeze the juice in ice trays.

If you have acid reflux or ulcers use lemons with caution and use your common sense to decide how much juice to drink.

Just a word of precaution, though - if you are using blood thinning medication, you will want to minimize your lemon juice intake as it facilitates blood thinning.

When you have asthma, you can use 3-4 lemons daily. Consider that if you have health problems, you can use up to ten lemons a day, which is already quite a lot. Here's something neat you can try - how about squeezing four to five lemons into 32 ounces of distilled water, mix it up in your thermos, and you should have enough to drink throughout the day. And before we forget, do not forget to rinse your mouth with fresh water for each time you partake of the lemon drink!
