Alter Your Eating Habits To Tackle Candidiasis

By Richard Haleney

Candida is a naturally occurring fungal growth which can spread to become a severe infection known as candidiasis if left untreated for extended periods. The human body is also host to helpful bacteria which normally prevent an outbreak of candida. The helpful bacteria may sometimes be compromised. There are many reasons why this might occur, but typically it is related to eating poorly, getting sick, or taking antibiotics. When this happens, the normal candida level may increase to a severe case of yeast infecton that can prove harmful to a person. An effective way of controlling this problem, one that rules out the need for taking drugs, is for people to pay attention to what they eat.

Nearly 80% of all people get yeast infections at some point in their lives. Itching in the genital region in men and women is the most common indicator of this infection Other symptoms are white marks around the mouth or even on the tongue. Mostly, this condition occurs in newborns and is called thrush.

Sometimes, people do not even know they have a yeast infection because the symptoms are not always clear. Very often, early symptoms such as mood swings, tiredness, depression, and intense cravings for carbs and sweets go undetected, as people rarely associate these symptoms with an attack of candida. Some people even get an upset stomach, cold extremities, allergies, or rectal itching when they are suffering from a yeast infection.

Further, sweets can also lead to an increase of candida in the body. People with candida need to follow a diet that eliminates products with high sugar content. In addition, they must not binge on white rice, white bread, cereals, and crackers because these are easily converted into sugar in the body. The best approach is to entirely eliminate all processed foods from the diet.

This leaves foods that will encourage the immune system and flora to function properly, and will help starve out the yeast. Juiced, cooked, or raw vegetables can always be eaten. If the issue isn't too harsh, fruit can also be consumed. It is better to eat lemons, green apples, berries, limes, and grapefruit if fruit must be eaten. Only eat fruit by itself since it can keep other foods from digesting properly.

Healthy fermented foods also help to empower the beneficial flora that can then attack the candida issue. Miso, which is naturally fermented soy sauce, and yogurt can also help on this diet. Miso fights weariness and yogurt strengthens intestinal flora. Sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha and tempeh are great allies as well.

Occurrences of candida can also be treated with a number of supplements. Some of these include apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, oregano oil, and goldenseal. Spicing up the taste buds by including spices such as curry, coriander, cloves, and cinnamon in the diet helps curb candida.

Apart from the foods that make up the diet, a number of supplements have proven to be effective when used for the treatment of candida. Spices such as cinnamon, cloves, curry, and coriander can be added to meals to provide support in the fight against infections. Pantry supplies, such as apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, ginger, and oregano oil, are also very effective. These products are commonly available in health foods stores.

The person who suffers from candida overgrowth needs to act quickly before the problem develops into an overall immune disorder, with the body attacking itself as it tries to find the evasive candida. Eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong ones will not only cure a current infection, but will help guard against repetitive infections as well.
