Why A Fecal Coliform Test Is Needed

Human bodies are a host of many bacteria, Bacteria in the human body can be harmful or helpful. In various strains it can be a threat to human health by causing of diseases. Bacteria like the one found in the intestines help in digestion but at some strain it can be harmful to man. A fecal coliform test helps to identify the presence of these bacteria in our food.

When a human being or an animal has digested the food that they have eaten, there is the part of food that is absorbed by the body and the part taken out as waste matter. This waste matter is referred to as stool in living things. The color, texture and even smell of the stool vary with the kind of food one has taken in.

When human waste has polluted the water bodies there is a great danger since these water maybe be used by animals to drink as well as human beings. Once someone has taken this water or even food which is contaminated the harmful strain of the bacteria starts to bring problems.

When untreated water is taken or infected food is eaten, the bacteria settle inside the digestive system. As a result, abdominal pains start to occur followed by vomiting, diarrhea and nausea. Cholera has been associated to be caused by these bacteria as well as all waterborne diseases.

The type of Bacteria that lives in plants and also in soil is said to be always present in polluted water. This makes it easier to infect the plants when water has been contaminated by waste and happens to be used in providing manure to the plants.

Care should be taken when handling water from the sources which is not treated. A fecal coliform test is necessary to make sure this water is checked for any presence of the bacteria as well as the pathogens. Proper hygiene should be maintained in the home, this includes washing of hands when handling food and thorough washing of fruits and vegetables. Boiling of water before drinking is also recommended.
