How Dental Sensors Are Used

By Nicole Guy

X-rays have been used since time immemorial to create images of patients on films. With the current trends in technology there in no need to use x-ray again because of the many disadvantages it has. Dentists use dental sensors instead to create teeth images of their patients.

This machine comes highly advantageous over x-ray since it produces results at a much faster rate. This is made possible by its feature of exposing the patient to less radiation. Also since there is no need to create a film the results come out faster. With this machine, contrast and size can be adjusted.

Information produced is in digital form making storage of data possible. The dentist will create a database where he will store the given information recorded. It helps in cost reduction and protection of eh environment since there is no need for film development.

Most kinds of this machine use both a CCD and a Scintillator to generate information. It is then produced in light form that results into display images. A dentist can view either a single tooth or the whole mouth with the tool. It has been designed in such a way that it can perform either of the tasks.

A sensor is placed inside the mouth of a patient to looks at a few at a time so as to view an individual tooth. The machine has been made in such a way that it can create images over a million pixels since the work is very sensitive and need a high resolution.

The whole mouth can be viewed with use of Dental Sensors. The machine is flexible and can move over the head smoothly. The machine only uses a single seam since seams created in the software of the machine corrects any seem created in the middle.
