Finding a Solution for Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a collection of symptoms and not a medical condition in itself. Tinnitus is characterized by the symptoms of being able to hear intrusive sounds in the ears. Tinnitus is an exceedingly commonplace condition with roughly 10% of the population afflicted with Tinnitus to some extent or another. It is most generally found in aged people although it is starting to become much more wide-ranging in the younger population. Some people hear a musical tone, although most people hear something which sounds rather more like a hissing or whistling or a humming or a ringing noise. For a lot of patients, it is more of an annoyance and doesn't affect their day to day lives although for a bunch of people, it is so bad that they need some kind of solution to relieve the symptoms

The Cause of Tinnitus

Tinnitus is caused by damages to the nerves in the internal ear (cochlea). These nerves broadcast electrical impulses to the brain which the brain then interprets as sounds. When these nerves are damaged, the signal becomes disrupted. When this distorted signal gets to the brain, the brain translates it as a noise which is Tinnitus.

In elderly folks, it is seen as part of ageing and is named presbyacusis. Nevertheless in younger folks medics believe it is due to being exposed to loud noises.

There are other reasons behind Tinnitus as well which include Anemia "where the thin blood rushes around the body so speedily that it can cause a sound. Excessive wax in the ear may also cause tinnitus. Menieres Disease which is a condition affecting balance can also have an unwanted effect of Tinnitus. Many drugs both legal and illegal may cause Tinnitus as the body responds to them.

The Treatment of Tinnitus

For most patients, there is no cure for Tinnitus. The majority of therapies only relieve the symptoms by concealing the noises caused by the Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is frequently strongly related to the patients level of stress. By managing this stress level via the usage of sedatives, tranquilizers or anti-depressants, the symptoms of tinnitus can be relieved.

Some drugs which affect the conduction of electrical impulses in the influenced nerves have been discovered to alleviate the symptoms of stress.

There are several self help measures which patients can employ either by themselves or in tandem with any help that a doctor can prescribe. These include listening to soothing music on a private stereo before the patient goes to sleep. There are white noise machines which can mask the noise inside your head. This implies that you cannot hear the noise generated by tinnitus.
