What Is Tennis Elbow and What Are the Remedies?

Tennis elbow is an overuse damage of the tendons joining your epicondyle of the elbow to the forearm muscles. The tendon which is commonly affected due to tennis elbow is the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB). Tennis elbow is common to people involved in repetitive and over use of the forearm muscles. Tennis and other racket game players are prone to suffer from this. Apart from that, this problem is found among plumbers, painters, cooks, auto workers etc.

Soreness near the epicondyle of your elbow is the first thing you feel when you have tennis elbow. It can be in the form of dull ache, sharp pain, stinging or throbbing.Very simple activities like holding a cup, turning a knob, writing become difficult. The pain may spread to your forearm and extend up to the palm.

Medication, therapy, surgery and exercises are among the tennis elbow treatment options. Depending on whom you consult, you may be suggested to adopt one or a combination of more than one of these four forms of cures.

The cornerstone of thetennis elbow home remedy is rest, i.e. avoiding activities that can potentially increase your injury. Regular icing using an ice pack is very helpful.It is advisable to wrap the ice pack moderately using a bandage to reduce swelling .Resting the arm above the heart level is also recommended to alleviate swelling and inflammation.

A doctor might suggest non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. But, this does not relieve you completely. Surgery for tennis elbow may involve ossatripsy,cutting the tendon, making an incision, or removing inflamed tissue. Tennis elbow surgery may result in side effects like order:,:5:7:loss of strength.

Hammering, prayer stretch etc. are among the several existing tennis elbow exercises.Practicing few simple exercises can be helpful in uprooting tennis elbow problem completely. However, if you practice wrong exercise or right exercise in a wrong way your situation may worsen. I would highly recommend that you take advise from an expert for an exercise plan.
