Most of my articles focus on the state of men's tennis, but I'd like to talk about the women this time around. Many believe that it's the biggest women's sport in the world, and I would agree.

I was thinking about the best women's players in the history of the sport, and realized that so many of them happen to be very recent players. It was really hard to make this list, but I'm going to list the seven elite women's players that come to mind, saving the best for the end.

Coming in at number seven on my list is Venus Williams. In her late 20s now, she's been in pro tennis for 15 years and she's simply been phenomenal. With many grand slam wins and a firm grip on Wimbledon, she's one of the best women to ever play the sport.

While Venus Williams is a legend, Justine Henin was just a little better. Beating Venus on many occasions, this small Belgian warrior has 9 slams. The difference between Henin and Venus is the fact that she won these over a 9 year period.

Monica Seles was one of my favorite players growing up, and I'm still saddened by the fact that some deranged man decided to put a knife into her during the match. Her career was never the same after this, but she seriously dominated women's tennis before this happened.

It's really hard to put Chris Evert here at four, but that's how competitive this field is. With' career slams, she is simply one of the best to ever play.

Serena Williams has one more grand slam win than sister Venus, and she's a year younger. This pegs her at number three on my list, and I believe that she'll win a handful of additional slams through the rest of her career.

2. Martina Navratilova. What an outstanding career she had, and she just never seemed to go away.' grand slams and a shining career.

Lastly, we have Steffi Graf, who I like to call the queen of modern tennis. She has more grand slams than anyone else with 22, and she was simply incredible.
